Help elect ERa supporting legislators
Generation Gender Equality
Generation Gender Equality is Generation Ratify's legislative agenda that will work to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and pass laws that will further advance the legal equality of all people, regardless of gender through creating a coalition of groups dedicated to advancing gender equality. Generation Ratify will collaborate with groups to pursue projects that will advance these pieces of legislation. This plan not only focuses on ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment, but it also pushes for laws that fall squarely at the intersection of gender equality at the state level. We are accepting groups of all kinds to be apart of the Generation Gender Equality Coalition. Whether you are a high school club or a national organization, reach out to to learn more about what it means to be apart of this coalition.
In order to kick-off this initiative, we will be pursuing a letter-writing campaign to urge members of the House of Representatives to vote to pass H.J Resolution 79, Removing the Deadline on the Ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. This piece of legislation will remove the arbitrary deadline that was placed on the Equal Rights Amendment. The day before the House votes on H.J Resolution 79, Generation Ratify members will hand-deliver letters to all representatives in the House. However, people must write these letter for us to deliver. This is when all of you come into play. We need you to express why you want the Equal Rights Amendment to be put into the Constitution of the United States.
In order to write letters for the DC based Generation Ratify team to deliver, you can either digitally submit a letter by filling out this google form or you can mail a hand-written letter to our D.C team at PO Box 3145 at the Arlington Buckingham Station (225 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA, 22203). We encourage you to submit your own letter as well as encourage your family, friends, and affiliated groups to write letters as well; it is always fun to have a letter writing party with friends! Reach out to if you would like to host a letter writing party! If you are an organization and you want to have one letter to represent your organization, that would be incredible! Lastly, you can sign on to the letter that Generation Ratify wrote to be delivered to all members of the House of Representatives. You can access that letter here!
You may write your own representative, which you can find here, or you can choose to write to one of a target representatives that is not a pro-ERA lawmaker, which you can find here. If you are writing a virtual letter, you can also leave it up to our team to figure out the representative that should receive it by leaving the representative's name blank. Below is an optional format that you can use to write your letter. There is no need to follow this at all. Additionally, you can change whatever you want within the letter to best represent you. Lastly, the bolded words are areas that you fill in to add that personal note:
The Honorable (Full name of representative)
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Representative (Last name of representative):
The legislation addressing H. J. Res. 79, Removing the deadline for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment is of paramount interest to me because (insert short and general statement about why the ERA is of interest to you). This issue directly impacts (insert short and general statement about who is impacted by the ERA and how they are impacted).
I am (insert words that describe your emotions) about the lack of equal protection from discrimination of all people, regardless of sex. Reason #1 of why we need the ERA. Reason #2. Reason #3. (Write about aspects that are special to you. Additionally, provide examples if necessary and elaborate for clarity in general.) (Check out our informational section on the ERA if you want to look at some facts and sources about the ERA.)
It is critical that H. J. Res. 79 is passed by the House of Representatives. In order to finally have constitutional gender equality, the arbitrary deadline set on the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment has to be removed. Thank you for your consideration of our viewpoint on this matter.
Thank you all for all of your hard work and dedication! Reach out to with any questions, comments, or concerns.
